Why Choose Horse Camp?

Ahh, Summer is almost here and we’re thinking about hot days, relaxing and what in the world can we do for our kids to keep them happy, healthy and active during the Summer months!  If your kids love horses, the answer is simple.  Sign them up for Horseback Riding Camp!

There are so many benefits of horse camp that it would be impossible to list them all.  So, we decided to focus on 5 of the top benefits for your kids.

  • Build confidence and self-esteem:Morgan leading Blue
There’s nothing quite like learning how to control a 1,000 pound animal with a mind of its own to build your confidence!  Our summer camp is designed to provide kids the opportunity to learn and grow in a non competitive environment.  We see their self esteem skyrocket as they try and succeed at new challenges. Many campers have no experience with horses and have never ridden a horse.  When they actually learn to ride and control a horse, we see joy and a huge sense of accomplishment in their eyes! All of this takes place in a controlled, safe environment and its completely different than how they learn in school.  The learning is hands on and everyone is very supportive of their fellow campers.  We encourage team work and want the kids to help each other boost their fellow campers confidence and self esteem.  There are no cliques or groups of “cool” kids or “popular” kids in horse camp.  There’s just a bunch of kids who share a love of horses and want to learn, grow, have fun and develop the necessary skills to ride and take care of horses!
  • Make new and long lasting friendships:summer riding camp 2016
I remember going to summer camp as a child and I met so many new friends.  We shared something very important and that commonality made it really easy to make friends.  We ALL LOVED HORSES!! Over the years, I have stayed in touch with many of the kids I met at summer camp and am close friends to this day with some.  No matter where our lives have taken us, we all still love horses and talk about all the great memories we have of spending our summer’s in horse camp.  We learned so much but had so much fun doing it that I’m not sure we realized back then all the life skills we learned.  Best thing my parents could have done for me when I was a child!
  • Unplug from technology:puppy love
Today’s technology is amazing but I see it being overused everywhere I go.  Adults and kids glued to their iPhone, iPad, tablets and other devices that I don’t even know what they are!  I see families in a restaurant where no one is talking to each other but rather they are doing something on some sort of electronic device.  Technology has its place but its not at our summer camps.  We want kids to improve their social skills and interact with the other campers.  I hear stories from parents that they never see their kids anymore because they’re in their bedrooms playing video games.  I think it’s sad that these kids are missing out on real life experiences in lieu of living in some sort of strange video fantasy world. Our campers are allowed one device to take pictures.  That’s it!  We want them to be active enjoying being outside and meeting new friends.
  • Improve physical fitness:summer camp chores
Horseback riding is a complete body workout!  Some people think that all horseback riders do is sit on a horse and the horse does all the work. NOT TRUE!  The rider is constantly using their muscles to control, remain balanced and influence their horse to perform.  It’s also a terrific aerobic workout! When we add the other horse related chores such as carrying buckets of water & feed, carrying bales of hay, lifting bags of grain and, yes, shoveling manure, our campers are getting a better workout than they would in the gym.  Plus, they’re having fun doing it and don’t even notice that it is hard work!  We want our campers to experience what it would be like to actually own and take care of a horse.  It’s one of the most rewarding experiences in life and it is work!  We do it for the love of our horses
  • Have FUN:horse camp is fun
Our Summer Horse Camp is designed to provide a safe, friendly, supportive environment in which your kids will learn all about horses and how to ride a horse.  It’s so much more than that though!  They will be learning life skills that will help them grow as individuals.  The best part is that they learn so much and don’t even realize the full impact because they’re having so much FUN doing so!  It’s like no other learning experience! You’ll see the joy on their faces when they share pictures of themselves with new friends at camp and when they tell you stories about what they did and what they learned.  Horse camp is a truly unique experience and we have a blast!

I really like that with horse training, it can build someones confidence so much, as you mentioned. It’s really cool to see the pure enjoyments a person gets when they finally accomplish something they have been working so hard towards. Seeing otherwise shy kids interacting with the horses, and other children or instructors is so rewarding I bet. Not only can it bring someone out of their shell, but also gives them responsibility that they respond well too. I’ll have to pass this on to my husband to see if this is something he’d want to do with our children.

Thanks Kourtney! It’s so true! The accomplishments of our campers and students is amazing. It’s so rewarding to be a part of their journey in life. Through our horses, we have seen so many kids build confidence and learn tools that will be useful to them in all aspects of their lives. We are so fortunate to have this opportunity 🙂 I’m delighted that it resonated with you and that you may use these amazing animals to assist your own children! ~Julie

I have found that I get more out of riding a horse than just the confidence that I can control it. It definitely begins that way. Even though I’ve ridden a few horses I get a sense of satisfaction when I get comfortable on a breed I haven’t ridden before. That enjoyment grows when I find that I can understand and have even bonded with the horse.

Thank you Trayson! We feel exactly the same way. Horse camp is definitely a great confidence builder but it is so much more! We believe in teaching our campers how to learn to listen to our horses and form a unique bond with them. There’s nothing quite like that feeling you get when you realize you and your horse are trusted partners! The bond between human and horse can be the most amazing feeling in the world! Thanks again for your comment 🙂 Julie
